HSG results update

So I had my HSG done yesterday and let me start by saying it was one of the most painful experiences I have ever had.  When they started inflating the balloon in my uterus the cramping was near unbearable.  I felt like I was on the verge of tears the entire time.  To make matters worst when he was done and we looked at the results on the screen the iodine went all the way through my right tube and not through my left. My left tube is blocked. While in the office I was trying not to be emotional. I was sitting there just feeling overwhelmed with frustration. Waiting for this storm to go away and the sun to come up already. I was already diagnosed with PCOS which makes it where I already don't ovulate regularly, but now on the chance that I do in fact ovulate I have a 50/50 chance of getting pregnant. First I have to ovulate. then I have to hope and pray it's on my right side since it's not blocked. Those are some shitty chances. My RE said I'll need surgery in January to unblock my left tube and see what's going on down there.  On the way home Mike explained it was actually better that they found something to explain why we're not getting pregnant than them saying "everything looks great! no idea why you're not able to conceive."  Which is very true. But at the same time, now I have the surgery in January, have to recover and do follow ups to make sure everything is all clear, then start trying again hopefully by March.  If I get pregnant in April we still won't meet our baby till 2012!!  This whole process is just more difficult than we've ever imagined.  All those years of being a control freak making itineraries and schedules has come back to haunt me.  I have no control over this situation and it kills me inside.  To be helpless and vulnerable is not one of my strong points.  I like having a plan but it looks like God is showing me who's boss and that he is the only one who knows our plan.  The only thing we can do now is pray.

HSG appointment today

I have my HSG appt today.  It's basically a procedure that flushes my tubes to see if they're clear or if something is blocking them which is causing us not to get pregnant. I'm nervous but excited to get some answers.  No need to waste anymore time playing the guessing game. 22 months TTC was not exactly in my plans. On the upside if my tubes are clear then I should be super fertile since my tubes got a good flushing. Now my fingers are crossed just to ovulate this month.   For those who want to know more about the procedure I'm just cutting and pasting from my dear friend wikipedia. :)  I'll give an update when I get the results!

Hysterosalpingography

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a radiologic procedure to investigate the shape of the uterine cavity and the shape and patency of the fallopian tubes. It entails the injection of a radio-opaque material into the cervical canal and usually fluoroscopy with image intensification. A normal result shows the filling of the uterine cavity and the bilateral filling of the fallopian tube with the injection material. To demonstrate tubal rupture spillage of the material into the peritoneal cavity needs to be observed.

Procedure

The procedure involves ionizating x-rays. It should be done in the follicular phase of the cycle.[1] It is contraindicated in pregnancy. It is useful to diagnose uterine malformations, Asherman's syndrome, tubal occlusion and used extensively in the work-up of infertile women. It has been claimed that pregnancy rates are increased in a cycle when an HSG has been performed. Using catheters, an interventional radiologist can open tubes that are proximally occluded.

The test is usually done with radiographic contrast medium (dye) injected into the uterine cavity through the vagina and cervix. If the fallopian tubes are open the contrast medium will fill the tubes and spill out into the abdominal cavity. It can be determined whether the fallopian tubes are open or blocked and whether the blockage is located at the junction of the tube and the uterus (proximal) or whether it is at the end of the fallopian tube (distal).

Complications

Complications of the procedure include infection, allergic reactions to the materials used, intravasation of the material, and, if oil-based material is used, embolisation. Air can also be accidentally instilled in to the uterine cavity by the operator, thus limiting the exam due to iatrogenically induced filling defects. This can be overcome by administering the Tenzer Tilt which will demonstrate movement of the air bubbles to the non-dependant portion of the uterine cavity.

Back to dieting

So due to my PCOS I have to watch what I eat to keep my insulin down.  If my insulin goes down then it raises my chances of ovulating so I have to stop being selfish in eating whatever I want and get back to the PCOS diet so we can have a baby.  The diet I'm on consists of chicken, fish, berries, nuts, eggs, cheese and lots of veggies.  I'll be trying to eat as minimally processed foods as possible. It's basically a low carb diet. The only carbs I'm eating are from the nuts and fruit so good carbs. :) eventually down the road I'll be able to add in whole grain foods once my insulin is at normal level.  It's really hard with the holidays around the corner.  I'll have to make sure if I do cheat to watch my portions.  As a last hurrah me and Mike ate Gyros last night...mMm those are always my last hurrah! They're soo delicious at this Greek restaurant here in town. Mike will be doing low calorie again and we're starting up the CP to 5k plan this week.  Ha ha starting from week 1 all over again! We went way too long without doing it so I'd rather start from the beginning and recondition.  I'm so glad we're doing this together.  It's so depressing living in a state where majority of the population is over 50 and some of them have better bodies then us!! kill me now! I saw this lady who had to be in her 50's and she was a size 2 and toned. Here we are in our 20's with a gut!! lol. I weighed in this morning at 182.8.  I'll post next Monday with an update on mine and Mikes weight loss. TTFN! (ta ta for now.)

update 11/24 -Well I was doing really well last week until Friday and it was downhill from there. On Thursday I got to 178.6 and today I weigh 181.4  lol, still 1 lb down but it could've been more.  Needless to say we did NOT start CP to 5k. ugh, what a bunch of LAZIES we are!!! Everyday it was literally "I'm so tired, we'll do it tomorrow. But we HAVE to do it tomorrow ok!?!" and the other would be like "yeah me too, yes tomorrow for sure! we HAAAVE to!!" and then we'd do something lame and double high five or something!  ha ha yeah that literally was the drill for 4 days straight until we kind of just stopped mentioning it and never attempted it. lol. it's sad.  Turkey day is tomorrow, I won't recommit to dieting until next Monday. lol.

Antique finds..oh how I love thee so!

So my neighbor had a garage sale this weekend and I thought I'd go check it out and I found the coolest thing!! It's called a patty shell maker.  I'm guessing it's from the 1940's because my neighbor (who's a grandmother) was saying how she remembered when her mom used to make them when she was a kid...so a loong time ago. I thought that was so neat.  I love antiques.  I always wonder how people we're dressed during that time frame and what was going on when they used the item. I know, I know...kind of creepy. lol. I'm sure most people think "Someone else's hands touched this and now they're dead!." I have a $5.00 bill in my wallet from 1934 and I sometimes wonder what it bought while moving through circulation.  In the 1930's $5.00 was enough to buy a pair of eye glasses. I'm sure someone had to have bought new spectacles with the $5.00 that's in my wallet. lol, moving back to the patty shell makers. They seem pretty simple and have the original instructions with them but it's torn in pieces and very very worn.  Maybe the mom got mad at the kids and said "I'm never making patty shells again!!" and ripped up the directions! hmph! done and done! Luckily my bag of goodies has a someone updated version of the patty shells and those instructions are still intact. I looked online and you can fill them with different things like creams, cheeses, jams. I guess it's basically like a pastry shell. The way the neighbor described them was they we're like hard cookies and you sprinkle powdered sugar on them.  I'll try both ways and post updated pics soon!  Here's my nifty finds!

Just Call Me Queen B!

Woo Hoo my package came in the mail today! The infertility book I'm reading mentioned Royal Jelly to help fertility.  I'm willing to try anything. :) I hope I like the taste, I have a whopping 24 ounces of it!!

Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion that is used in the nutrition of larvae, as well as adult queens. It is secreted from the glands in the hypopharynx of worker bees, and fed to all larvae in the colony.
When worker bees decide to make a new queen, either because the old one is weakening, or was killed, they choose several small larvae and feed them with copious amounts of royal jelly in specially constructed queen cells. This type of feeding triggers the development of queen morphology, including the fully developed ovaries needed to lay eggs. Royal Jelly is said to improve fertility in both men and women, in men by increasing the quality of their sperm, and in women by increasing the quality of their eggs.

What is Royal Jelly Used For?
  • It increases libido
  • Supports the health of eggs (so you get pregnant - and don't miscarry)
  • Diminishes the signs of aging (inside and out, to help you get pregnant no matter when you want to)
  • Reduces inflammation (helpful for endometriosis, PCOS, and other inflammatory conditions)
  • Naturally boosts the immune system
  • It has been shown to treat auto-immune conditions (these conditions can cause infertility, not to mention pain)
Wish me Luck!! Hopefully we'll get our BFP by Christmas! That would be a blessing.

How I will feel when I am pregnant.
A girl from TMP took these words right out of my mouth!
I will cherish every second that I am puking in the toilet and thank God that he has blessed me with morning sickness.
I will love every stretch mark that marked my body with pregnancy battle scars.
I will skip merrily to the bathroom and sing tunes while I tinkle 100 times a day!
I will push like I have never pushed before and love my constipation.
I will smile and cringe with every blood draw and 3 hour glucose test because that's just part of pregnancy.
I will listen to every sign my body gives me and happily follow each one.
I will be like a giddy little school girl when I finally get to go buy maternity clothes.
I will happily gain every pound that is needed for our baby and know that no matter how hard I worked at loosing all the weight prior, this is SO worth it!!
Every time the little angel kicks me in the liver I will cry happy tears that I am able to feel him or her move.
I will smile and refuse to complain about any ache or pain that goes along with the territory since I have been dreaming about feeling that way for so long.
And when my water breaks and the contractions feel like they are going to tear me apart, I will just hold my husbands hand and tell him this is it, we are gonna bring our baby into the world soon!!

Day in Tampa

When me and Mike went to Savannah earlier this year we tasted Spatzel for the first time and it was delicious.  For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a German noodle dish.  We then had it again at Epcot and Mike has been craving German food ever since.  We found a German restaurant in Tampa called Schnitzelhaus and decided to make it a day trip. Some good food, check. shopping at the International Plaza, check. Sounds like my kind of day!!  Mike's been so busy with traveling and playing Starcraft, I thought it would be so nice if we didn't use the computers till after dinner.  Just me and Mike time.... Buuut it turns out we just can't get away from that game!!.  It followed us to Tampa. lol.
We really did have a great day together. For any of you that live in Florida, Schnitzelhaus is a must! The owner is very nice and be ready for constant bad jokes. lol. they're so bad it's funny.   We hope to spend a day in Tampa every month and make a visit to Schnitzelhaus!  As always, here's some pics of our food. ha ha did you really think I wouldn't have pictures??

The decor was very German. Go figure.
 so Emo.
best potato pancake ever!! ha ha I took a piece off before taking a picture but snuck it back in there!! :)
Sourdough bread made with a decade old starter. yumm.
 Weinerschnitzel and Spatzel. Holy Yumm!!
jagerschnitzel and Spatzel. Basically the same as above but smothered in mushrooms and a cream sauce!! My new fave!!

To top off our day we ran around looking for new phones.  Went to all of the carriers in the mall and finally decided to stick with Tmobile and hook ourselves up with some new Androids!! Best Christmas present to each other ever! we Love Love Love them! And best of all we can do video chat when he's out of town.  So now I can annoy him even when he's 3,000 miles away!! SUCCESS!!! =P  Oh yeah I almost forgot about the BEST part of our day!! (Insert sarcasm here)  Me and Mike we're inside Sanrio (OF COURSE I have to buy hello kitty stuff when I get the chance!!) and I'm paying for my items then suddenly I hear "THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN!!!" I turn my head and there is what was once a full cup of ice coffee ALL oooover the wood floor inside Sanrio.  I was mortified. The girl behind the counter did not look amused. ha ha ha poor Mike. All that came out was "I'll clean it up."  I'm sure little girls we're mad because it literally spilled everywhere you couldn't walk across the store.  He probably stopped at least 4 girls from looking at the hello kitty school supplies. The best part of it was when we walk out of the store I turn to him and give him that "I can't believe you did that" look, and he says "Mike one, Hello Kitty Zeeero!" I couldn't help but laugh! I love him.  Even though he did make a mess in HK's house!

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas

It's freezing!!  It's 58 degrees outside and I'm loving it.  I love the winter when your fingers get cold instantly and that crisp cold air hits your face.  Being in Florida it's obviously not a real winter, but It's what we look forward to after the hot ass summer!!  Not to mention when the house feels cold it reminds me of Christmas and instantly brightens my day!  I might just start putting up the Xmas decor in the house very soon. :) Since the weather was so nice I decided to play with my babies while Mike's sleeping.

Of course the first thing they do is a face off
 It's getting intense
 ATTACK!!!!
 Acacia found an orange.................
And of course decided to bury the orange!
 A little more chasing
 Still running
I hate when Lola's ears are up!
